I have been wanting a fancy chalk board for awhile...
You know the kind you hang and write quotes or holiday greetings on!
I found a old picture at a consignment store and loved the frame...
I want black so with a little work it went from ugly to exactly what I wanted....
Thanks hubby!
At first we used basic chalk...It was messy
Plus I'm a lefty and I'd smear as I wrote!
I did some research and found chalk board markers!
Yay! I was so excited!
Grabbed my coupon for 40% and headed to JoAnn Fabric!
I bought the Marvy Bistro Chalk Marker set
This what it looks like....
I forgot to take a before picture!
This is what it looked like after I tried to remove my Christmas greeting!
I used Dawn dish soap, still nothing!
I finally used a Mr. Clean Magic eraser and it's better
It did take off some of the paint
I will probably repaint in the near future!
I've since done some more research and supposedly these markers work great
on vinyl chalk boards or high gloss boards!
I'm bummed because I also painted the inside of my pantry so I can post my weekly menu
So I'm back to messy chalk!

Hmmm... I have had a chalkboard in my kitchen for years and when the markers first came out. I haven't had this problem the problem I would get is the ghost marks (light shadow) and if I use all my weight into it would finally come off. If I want sharpness I use markers, but other wise use the chalk there is something about chalk brings me back to being a kid. :)) hugs my friend.
what a bummer about it not coming off all the way!! I love the idea of having one in the kitchen though but I think I will stick to using the chalk!
That stinks. My daughters made me a super cute cheese tray for Christmas (ala Pinterest). They bought a white tray and painted it with chalkboard paint. I haven't tried it yet, but it sure looks cute.
Love the chalk board, hate the message. "Let it snow?" Please no.
I have vinl boards on the boat with markers that are made for them and they work great. But they dont look as good as yours.
good to know! - I find the CUTEST ides on Pinterest... yet to try any of them.... but I LOVE the idea of the chalk bord... Hope you get it fixed... (I'm a lefty also! :-)
Sorry they didn't work out but I love your chalkboard!
I wish I remember more details of this whiteboard type paint that I read about. I believe you can paint a wall with it and just write on the wall. Our daughter uses a small whiteboard she hung in her room. Occasionally she uses the mirror in the bathroom.
Well poo on that! I do love how it looks even if you are stuck with plain old chalk!
Here I was getting all excited to find out the don't work!
I have an old fashioned chalk board. It's messy, but it suits the purpose.
Hmm, I've used a wet paper towel with no problem. They definitely don't clean as easy as chalk!
Well that sucks! Atleast your chalkboard turned out great.
Awe Shucks, don't you hate when things don't work out as planned. I love the concept. I'm sure you will come up with a great alternative though.
I've never even seen these markers! I've always used chalk even though its messy. Bummer about your chalkboard - hopefully something will take it off so you don't need to repaint!
Bummer for all your time and anticipation. Somewhere out there there are chalk pens that will work. I know you'll find a way. :)
still good idea- always learn more from my mistakes than my successes. I REALLY learn from other's mistakes though- so thanks!
