Shhhhh....

I'm borrowing my new neighbors wireless! If I sit in the far corner of my back porch I can get one bar of signal...woot, woot! Our internet and TV are being connected next week....yeah!! I have my iphone and can check emails, facebook etc...but reading blogs and posting I haven't mastered.

I thought I would do a quick random update...We closed on our house on Monday. So happy to finally have that behind us...what a pain in the neck. We spent the night here on Monday with our bare bones rental stuff. Its funny all the things we acquire over the years and it takes a move to realize how much crap we have. So we are living with the minimal until our stuff arrives. Like 4 bowls, 4 cups, 4 plates etc....

Our cars arrived Tuesday, happy to see them. They have been in storage for two years, we would pull them out for our Christmas and summer visits home. I drove that day for the first time in 7 months...I was nervous and scared, but it was like riding a bike only better. My only fear is I have no sense of direction here and clueless where everything is. Tuesday night we bought a Garmin GPS now all is good. Where we live its pretty rural, it's in the sticks! So my land marks are turn right at the smiley face flag and left after the Llama farm. If I see the goat farm I've gone too far!

Tomorrow the truck with our stuff from storage in Utah will be here...I'm excited but I haven't seen or used any of it in two years I wonder if it's anything usable or just crap. I know there will be anything with american plugs like mixers and lamps etc... Maybe my china from my wedding, holiday decor..random stuff. Also my new washer and dryer from Sears is arriving tomorrow...I have a ton of laundry to do,we are running out of clothes. Our air freight container from Germany, the one that should have been here a day or two after we arrived two and half weeks ago. Is still in Germany with the German customs...am I nervous, yes! All of our clothes and shoes and breakables are in that container. Hopefully they will release it this weekend, then it will have to clear US customs. If all goes according to the new plan we should have them late next week. Our sea container with all our furniture and stuff from Germany is somewhere around Greenland and when it will arrive and clear customs is the million dollar question. Maybe mid August..?

My baby is still in Utah with family and friends, she is having a great time. I miss her first time apart in a very long time. Sophie is doing great, she did great with the plane ride, hotel living and boarding while we were in Utah. I think she likes the new house. We have to watch her pretty close outside, our yard is not completely fenced in and its wild life central here. She has chased rabbits, squirrels, birds and had a stare down with a baby deer. They say there is foxes here and to be careful of small dogs.

Still waiting for my neighbors to bring cookies and say Hi...I even put on a bra first thing in the morning in case one wants to bring morning muffins by. Maybe next week I'll have to bake them cookies and say Hi instead.

I hope to be back reading and commenting on Blogs as soon as I have better internet and stop spending my days with Mr. Clean and a rag.

Have a wonderful day!

Gotta love rental stuff. Hope you are reunited with all your real belongings soon and enjoy setting up your new home.

If that is a picture of your house in the header - Hello! That's pretty! I know what you mean about storage. We hadn't seen our stuff in four years. We chucked most of it or gave it to charity :) We figured if we lived without it for that long we really didn't need it (minus the coffee maker. OMG I love my coffee maker and was so happy after four years that it still worked!)

Have fun stealing wifi ;)

Beautiful house! Our container was released from customs then they called it back and decided to crack it open for a hand inspection which according to our relo people meant certain breakage and lots of it. Stressful to say the least but all was fine. Just crazy delayed. They opened all the boxes containing anything marked linen because apparently drugs are liquified and sewn into the fabric and then reconstituted here. Who knew?

The good news is you're in the USA and if you run out of stuff you can just go buy more. In the middle of the night even.

Have fun with your storage...ours had been in there 6 years and it was fun to see. Lots to throw away but still, lots we'd forgotten about.

You kept your cars?? We sold ours and I still remember it with so much of love!! My husband keeps telling me that after 3 years we are gonna throw most of our stuff left back in India!! Stealing neighbors internet!! How cool is that?? lol!!! I remember the time we could steal our neighbor's cable network!! :D

I remember when we moved here my kids and I lived in an empty house for ten days before my husband, our dog, our gas, our cable, and our furniture arrived. When that big moving truck pulled up with my stuff I was absolutely thrilled. Suddenly all of that furniture that I had been planning to replace because it bored me was oh so beautiful! No wireless for me then, though. I do remember that a neighbor brought an old radio over for us to use. And chicken casserole.

Those were the days...

oooo...so very exciting; early days, getting set up....all your adventures, experiences and friends to be made, are yet to come!

I'm glad you're doing well...if I were you, I'd definitely do the muffin thing; the neighbours might just want to 'give you space', letting you settle in ('course, they might be scared to let you know who they are, since you might go over and 'swipe' some internet time ;D)

I wish I could bring muffins for you.

I can totally relate. I live by a llama farm as well. If I drive past the tobacco field, I've gone too far.

I would bake you something to welcome you to the neighborhood! I don't think people do that much anymore. Will you still be calling yourself Frau???

Boy-It's nice to know that you're here! Tell us about your new home-do you love it? Enjoy your summer and just think of all the hours to clear the decks once school starts.
Hope everything arrive safely.

I hope you're going to take pictures of the stuff you've had in storage for two years. With commentary on whether you made a good or a bad call on each item.

I just went thru some of my stuff and really, WHAT WAS I THINKING?

YAY! Nice post and a great roundup of what you are up to in your corner of the world. Everything will fall into place soon and you will be letting us know the scoops of your new life.

Thank you for mentioning cookies from the neighbors. I need to bake or buy some (or cupcakes) and take them next door to the very sweet and quiet young couple who moved into Joan's house. From what I can see they are putting the house together to their liking. So far they seem quiet and I like that. They have a little boy approx age 2 and Becky, the mom, is pregnant with her second. I don't think she is very pregnant, she does not have a belly yet. Ryan, the husband is a pilot for a local puddle jumper airline. So glad you are in the USA and things are coming together. Looking forward to more regular posts from you. xoxoxo

So happy to hear the house closed. Glad that's behind you.

If I didn't have a Garmin GPS I'd never leave home. They are a lifesaver.

I say eat off the wedding China and enjoy having it back! And when your neighbors finally come with cookies they'll be impressed you have such great stuff :-)

I'm back from vacation and catching up on reading. Glad you were able to "borrow" your neighbor's wireless-- that's better than cookies any day :-)

You might have moved to the wrong state for cookies to appear on your door step. You should have moved to the south. We were here for 45 minutes and cookies came to our door hot and fresh with lemonade.

Ooo creatively acquired wireless is good! Glad you're able to get online some. That sucks about your stuff being held up in customs though. I hope you get it soon!

What an adventure! I can't imagine moving across the ocean and having to orchestrate all of that. It's probably enough stuff to fill a book!

I'm glad you found a enough internet service to write this post - I was totally fascinated.

I also can't imagine not driving for such a long time. Well, welcome back to the land of the car :)

Enjoy!

I'm very glad for this update and happy you are doing well.

I made dinner for two different new neighbors in June, ignoring a slight worry that other neighbors I didn't do it for (when they moved in) would find out and be hurt. Sure enough, the next week, from a neighbor who moved in in April three YEARS ago, stopped me on the street and said, "Thanks a LOT for bringing US food!" They laughed but have brought it up THREE TIMES this summer, at least. Grrrrr.

Wish I could give you a welcome hug :)

Glad to hear things are slowing coming together. Going through your storage stuff will either be like Christmas or you'll groan that you still have certain things! Hope you get some welcome cookies - we've moved almost 20 times and never gotten neighbourly welcomes but i keep hoping for next time! : )

That's how I learned directions here in Oklahoma. Go three miles east, 2 miles south, 1 mile back east. If you pass the green silo with the red rooster painted on it, you've gone too far.
