Friday Fragments...

Happy Friday!!

Hard to believe it's been a week today that Katelyn graduated....it partly feels like it was so long ago! My parents left yesterday after an eight day visit. It was really nice having them here for the graduation. I still have this stupid summer cold going on day thirteen....not a lot of fun there or sleep.

Here we are enjoying some ice coffee and cupcakes while saying Hi to Katelyn at work! We shopped our little village main street, went to Canada to Niagara on the Lake, shopped some Antique malls....
but mostly hung out on our back porch with views of pretty flowers relaxing.

It's hard to believe we will turn the calendars to July this weekend......this summer is going by too fast!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
My hubby is off next week.....making my HONEY DO list..

If you love puppies stop by Mrs. 4444's and surely see the cutest puppy Milo!

My Graduate

Katelyn graduated on Friday.....
It was a nice ceremony....
Speeches were good..
One a little long...
She is in the top 10% of her class so they received their diplomas first...
which was really nice, usually because of our last name she is one of the last in anything alphabetical.
But then we had to wait for the other 204 kids names to end...it was long!
We are really proud of her....
I did good....I don't think it will hit me yet....
We haven't seen her much since....
Parties parties and more parties...
Dinner out tonight to celebrate...

We love you Katelyn!! xo

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Summer officially rolls in with the Hodgepodge this week, for those of us in the Northern hemisphere anyway. What song says summer 2012 to you?
???? Don't have one yet I'm going to work on it though!! I did hear a song last night on my oldies but goodies radio station that brought back summer memories of the year I graduated 1984
Tears for Fears Shout!

2. What's your favorite quintessential summer food?
Watermelon...grilled veggies.....hot dogs/hamburgers

3. I've spent a lot of time traipsing up and down the NJ Turnpike in recent weeks. Did you know the rest areas on the turnpike are named after people who lived or worked in NJ? Clara BartonWalt WhitmanJ. Fennimore CooperMolly PitcherJoyce Kilmer,Thomas Edison, and Gover Clevland just to name a few. Of those I listed, who would you most like to have known and why?
I'm going to say Clara Barton because of her humanitarian causes and being the found of Red Cross....I wonder if she ever dream this organization would help so many.

4. At what age did you move out of your parent's house and what prompted the move?
I was 22 years old....I got married.

5. What's more satisfying to you-saving time or saving money?
Saving money for sure.

6. Name something you think brings out the good in people.
Paying it forward....giving back!

7. This last question comes to you courtesy of Kathy over at Reflections...will you be taking a vacation or a staycation this summer? If so where will you go? If a staycation is on the calendar have you made any special plans to fill the time?
Probably a staycation....maybe a quick trip to NJ at the most. We did our big vacation in April and being Katelyn is leaving for college in 56 days...we need every minute for her to work and us to enjoy her smiling face!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
My parents come today for a visit and Katelyn's graduation on Friday....it's really happening! My baby is going to be a college girl...I'm in such denial.....I know some of you are saying "what's the big deal"...I'm not sure....it just feels like kindergarten was yesterday and eighth grade was also yesterday...and now it's just I want to pause life for a little while....take a breath and enjoy! sniff sniff sniff....!

Stop by and say hi to Joyce at From this side of the pond for more Hodgepodge fun!

Hard to resist him...

Happy Friday and an act of kindness...

My friend Becky posted this on her blog today and her Facebook....I'm doing it! Such a simple act of kindness that will make someone's day special....plus everyone loves getting mail and cards especially. It doesn't have to be a store bought card, it can be a note, hand made or a postcard something to brighten this boy's day!

Do you want to do an act of kindness today? My friend Marey posted this message on her blog this morning. I am committing to sending this child a card. Can you?

Most of you know that my daughter is a teenage cancer SURVIVOR. Along the way we met many others who were not so fortunate as my daughter..."we are the lucky ones," if such a thing exists....ironic to be lucky after going through 2 1/2 years of daily chemo. There's always someone who has it worse off...
So this is where I ask the favor....there is a boy who is turning 16...he is a SURVIVOR just like my daughter...only boys have 3 1/2 years of chemo for the same cancer...as that wicked cancer has taken to male parts to go into hiding. So this boy is turning 16- his dad just passed away and it's his first birthday without him. I know this sucks because my dad also died when I was young...and I can't imagine also having had cancer.

Ashton's mom would LOVE it if he could be bombarded with mail for his 16th birthday, June 22. If you have a second, could you send him a card? I put $5 in the one I am sending, but just a card would make his day.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. In what way are you your own worst enemy?
Sure I can talk myself into and out of anything....I'm the devil on my own shoulder!
2. Jacques Cousteau's birthday was Monday, June 11th...ever been scuba diving? Is that something you'd like to try? What's your favorite 'under the sea' creature?
No on the scuba diving and I have zero interest, not a fan of underwater activities. Favorites sea creature Dolphins.
3. On a scale of 1-10, how comfortable are you in and around the water? (1=not at all, 10=very) Do you know how to swim and if so how and when did you learn?
5 depending on the water.....if a pool I'm a 10, if the ocean I'm a 3, if a lake I'm a 5.....depends on the threat of danger! I learn to swim in a man made lake....but my skills are rusty!
4. What's something you do to motivate yourself to tick an item off your to-do list?
A deadline
5. What makes a good neighbor? Are you a good neighbor?
Being friendly, helpful and attentive (aka nosey) I only say that because once our neighbor left their garage open all night and someone stole their car....so now if it's pass ten and the garage is open you may receive a text!
6. Who loads the dishwasher at your house? Is there a right way and a wrong way?
We all do...there is no right or wrong in this house.....well except it's helpful if the dishes are rinsed first...just saying!
7. You know it's summer when_________________________.
My legs are covered in bug bites! The black flies and mosquitos are out in force!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
School for my senior is officially out....now she waits until the 22nd to graduate....today starts the sleeping in and staying up late...for her! I on the other hand am still up like clock work at 6am letting the dog out and feeding her...I wish dogs sensed summer break!

Happy Wednesday! Stop by Joyce's at From this side of the Pond for more Hodgepodge!

Katelyn's Prom

Katelyn had her Senior Prom this weekend....she had a great time...with her date and group.
It was a long day week of prep....and I'm personally glad it's behind us! Everything turned out beautifully....hair,nails,makeup, dress and the weather!

The theme of her prom was Midnight in Paris....she said decent meal, lots of dancing...music okay, too much country music (but when you live in the boonies what do you expect) no prom drama...which is always a plus! I received just the facts....very little info :(

After prom they have a lock down event which they have a choice to go to...her group went...they were pretty tired by then...lots of games and prizes and food but mostly hanging out. After that limo took them to one of the girls house for more fun...bon fire and camp out! By then the rain started and the camping happen in the living room of girls house....she was home the next morning by 11:30 tired...and is still tired!

Her friend came over the next night and they scanned FaceBook for hours commenting on everyone's dresses and hair.....Girls!!

Last two days of school and in a 11 days Graduation....than Summer can begin!

P.S. Not sure if the garter wearing/presenting is a Western New York thing??? I personally have never seen it before....but apparently it's part of a prom tradition here!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. How many students were in your high school graduating class? Did you know most, if not all of them?
Back in my day---that is Class of 1984! We had a huge class over 800! I only went to that school my junior and senior year. I maybe new 10 classmates really well.

2. What was the last thing you photographed?
My pillows I made for back porch furniture...for my blog post! Isn't every picture for a post of some kind!

3. Pickles-love 'em or loathe 'em? If its love what's something you eat that needs a pickle?
I don't love them or loathe them...hubby on the other hand hates them so we don't have any in the house.

4. What's a stereotype you seem to perpetuate without meaning to?
Guilty of a few put pleading the fifth!

5. Ever been horse back riding? If so is it something you enjoy? If not, do you have any interest? Did you watch the Kentucky Derby? Will you be watching the last leg of the Triple Crown this weekend?
I took riding lessons when I was younger and loved it...last time I rode was in Montana on a trail...it was amazing scenery. I don't typically watch Kentucky Derby or Triple Crown might tune in for some of the riding in Olympics...maybe!

6. What's your favorite 'wedding' movie?
I love Father of the Bride with Steve Martin
Four Weddings and a Funeral is a favorite, so is 27 Dresses and Wedding Crashers!

7. What is one 'tourist attraction' in the USA that you'd like to see in person?
I've never been to San Francisco....Golden Gate Bridge, maybe even Mount Rushmore...to name a few.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Gateway to the end of school is getting closer by the day....
Lockers are empty..
Year books distributed...
A few finals left....
Prom on Friday...
then a long two weeks of what until Graduation...waiting!
And Summer begins...
Can't wait!!

Move over Martha....

Some one else is getting crafty!!
Yesterday I fired up the new sewing machine...
for the first time since receiving it from Santa's elves!

My goal
outdoor pillows for my back porch sitting...
Right now the cushions are a blackish/brown toile
I'd like to replace them to a more neutral solid
but perhaps next year....it's beyond my sewing skills!
I'm going for a more red, white and blue nautical theme.
Done in outdoor material, resistant to mold and fading...
I whipped out four pillows before running out of filler.
I need three more pillows....

 Sophie enjoying the new pillow
With all crafts I do there is always blood involved!
Went a little crazy with my pizza cutter like fabric slicer...
battle wounds...I'm sure Martha has had her share!

Happy Tuesday!
