Sunday in My City- Dreams do come true!

What do daredevils dream of....
doing daring things..

This week in my neck of the woods
the final go ahead was given
for tightrope walker Nik Wallenda to cross
Niagara Falls from US side to Canada side
220 feet above the Falls
1,800 ft. long walk
it will take 40 minutes....

This has been his dream since he was 6 years old
He is 7th generation of the famous
Flying Wallendas

The event will happen this summer....
So if you are looking for something to do this summer...
It will be quite a sight....

Sunday in my city- Christmas

Unknown Mami's Sunday in my city...Stop by and travel the world

Christmas is full on.....okay probably is everywhere that Christmas is celebrated. With 13 days 11 hours left....We are enjoying our tree and it's 700 mini lights! Our fake but life like tree needed new lights this year, some reason hubby kept sending me back to Walmart for more lights....it's like Las Vegas in our living room! Our living room mantel sports our Santa collection and our tree has ornaments from the early days of homemade to ones from our travels to gifts given over the years. We have lots of skiing santa's and skiing snowman.....I really love all of the ornaments they have a special meaning.

Have you ever heard of Santacon? My older nieces and nephews partake in NYC, it was all over FaceBook....so of coarse I had to google it because I like to be educated and in the know!!
What is Santacon you ask? It's a mass gathering of parading in streets and gathering in bars spreading Christmas cheer and being jolly celebrated throughout cities around the world. I like the idea most events you donate cans of food for the food banks or toys for toys for tots!

Here's Sophie ready for Santacon Buffalo.....

Sunday in My City- The Basilica

Located in Lackawanna, NY
just 20 or so minutes from my house...
I had driven by once and was astound at it's beauty....
When my parents were here visiting I decided it was time to visit the Basilica.

Father Nelson Baker also known as Padre to the poor
85 years ago, his dream came alive....
"A true architectural wonder, the Basilica of Our Lady of Victory stands as a tangible symbol of one man's unshakable faith and devotion to his patroness, Mary. It is a place of wondrous beauty, radiating hope to all those who arrive at its doors in desperate need. Its hundreds of paintings, sculptures, and mosaics dazzle the senses and evoke awe in even the hardest of hearts. But, above all, the Basilica is a gift of thanks. A gift, offered by Msgr. Nelson Baker, V.G., to his helpmate, Our Lady of Victory, for more than 50 years of inspiration and spiritual assistance."

I have visited many grand churches while we lived in Europe and this Basilica is right up there with the best of them. My pictures really don't do justice. In the basement of Basilica is a museum and gift shop both just as impressive. I could go on and on about this amazing place and Father Baker...if your interested Wikipedia does a great description and much better pictures than mine.

And if you are ever in or near Buffalo, New York it's worth a detour...

Now lets head over to San Francisco and see what UNKNOWN MAMI is up to!

HAPPY SUNDAY!!

Sunday in My City -Wings

Happy Sunday
Joining Unknown Mami today for Sunday in my city stop by and travel the world!
Last night we took my parent to the Anchor Bar in downtown Buffalo
home of the original Buffalo Wing since 1964.

We have been there once before but didn't have wings
why you ask?
Because my health nut of a hubby ruined it with the calorie count per wing!
But my parents are visiting and we wanted the wing experience!
OMG!!
They were really GOOD
We ordered a plate of 20 mild!
4 each...I think that is equivalent to a slice of Cheese Cake!

The after picture...no real before picture because we ate them so fast!

If you are ever in Buffalo, New York
go to The Anchor Bar
for the wings and atmosphere
it's worth a trip!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Sunday in My City

I'm not sure when Unknown Mami started this meme she wanted this kind of post....
But when you live rurally this is a big part of my city...
We do not have regular sanitation service in my village....
you go to the transfer station aka dump
don't you think transfer station sounds better more classy!
We live about a 1/2 mile away from ours which is so convenient.

Makes my hubby smile

Sometimes I think he looks for things to throw away...
But it makes it nice when you have projects and lots of waste...
He is especially happy to have his pick up

Load everything in and haul it away in minutes...
The hours are frequent and long...
So if the garbage is smelly and over flowing, off we go..
They have a spot for non recyclables, paper, plastic, old oil,
electronics, clothing....building materials and brush.
♻They recycle everything here♻

Sometimes the whole family has to come...

She loves it especially....NOT!

My favorite part of the Transfer Station is the mulch that is recycled from the brush...
It's free (well I guess our taxes we pay so not really free)
We fill our flower beds several times a year with it....

So there you have it...
Katelyn says it's sad I've gone from doing Sunday's in my city in Paris to the dump!
Happy Sunday all!

Sunday in My City-more NYC

Happy Sunday all!!
This is the last of my NYC visit
I will return to my village in WNY....

This visit we went a few places Katelyn has never been or it's been a very long time since I have visited.
I was nice to see different parts of this big city.

I could have stayed there all day drinking coffee and people watching!!

Next stop China Town

We just walked through China Town on our way to dinner in Little Italy. The hustle and bustle of China Town plus the smells, sites etc... it's exciting and interesting.

I loved walking through Little Italy
The lights, colors, outdoors patio restaurants, shops, Gelato, Cannolis ....

One of my favorite parts to any city is the street art and murals...it took me awhile to appreciate this kind of art. Now living rurally you don't often see this and I miss it.

Thanks for coming along with us in NYC

The High Line

On today's remembrance of 9/11 I thought I would do my Sunday in my City from NYC.

On our recent visit with my sister she took us to The High Line. Have you been? It's located on Manhattan's West Side it's a public park built on evaluated rail structure running 1.45 miles from Gansevoort Street to West 34th Street. Originally built in the 1930's this now abandon rail line is a beautiful park with nature, art and amazing views of the skyline.

If you are ever in NYC it's a worth a visit.....
Stop by Unknown Mami and travel the world with her and friends

Today all our hearts are heavy in remembrance of 9/11
My prayers to all the families and love ones
My forever thanks to the Men and Women fighting for our Country
