Life back in USA has a pace we have been out of touch with for some time. We are so happy to be back, been busy running around. Vet appointments, registering Katelyn for High School, buying washer and dryers....etc...Still in a hotel, our closing has been postponed...we are so disappointed, NY state has lots of red tape.

Sophie is doing great, she loves being back in the car, sticking her head out the window. Has a new bed and treats...she seems good.

We are having a hard time in restaurants, gonna take us awhile to get used to the noise level again. Germany was so quiet, freakishly quiet. I loved having a meal and a conversation....my ears are still ringing from dinner tonight. The trade off is amazing service...I like that.

So far we have had Mexican food, hamburgers, bagels, Chinese food...Canadian Beer!

Life is good!

Sounds like you are getting back into the swing of things. I don't know why our restaurants have to be soooo loud!

So glad you are back and happy to be home again. I never thought of cultures being different regarding noise levels. Interesting. Love Mexican food. How did you survive in Germany without salsa??? That would have been a deal breaker with me. hahaha :) xoxo

Welcome back to "noisy" America! Glad you and your family arrived safely. So I am wondering, will you still be the Frau on the new block? I look forward to your new found perceptive!

i enjoyed this post. your ears were ringing from a restaurant visit! *lol*

i get that as soon as i arrive in an american airport - wth - we're LOUD!

hey, i've been wanting to ask you what the J is for in your header.

i bet you're so happy to be home. and for the 4th! my goodness are you guys gonna celebrate this year! i'm usually visiting family but this year we cannot afford to go back. i hope my man and i can celebrate the 4th here, somehow.

you mentioned you ate mexican right away - good for you: ) i am in the process right now of making enchiladas from scratch. and by scratch i mean making the tortillas myself, and the enchilada sauce myself. i've been working on it for 5 hours now in this hot (90F) kitchen. i sure hope they turn out. this sure is a pain - back home i'd just buy the can/package (no, i'd go to the freaking mexican restaurant). but if i can do this i'll sure feel empowered.

i wonder if you have fireflies in your yard too. i saw them in new york last year and i was entranced. i love them!

Sorry to hear of all the red tape, hope it all works out soon.
Your comment of the noise at restaurants is interesting, something I wouldnt have thought about. Welcome back Mrs West

Try eating in restaurants that have carpeting and/or drapes. American restaurants usually have no carpeting so the sound bounces all around the room. (they do this in comedy clubs too but there it helps to have the laughter bounce)

No carpeting makes restaurants think patrons will believe the resto is busy and has lots of atmosphere.

Meanwhile, NOT SO MUCH.

Is that your new house in the header? If so, wow, it is so pretty!! Glad Sophie made the trip in good form! xoxox

What?!?!? No fish fry yet? That's one of my faves when I'm in the Buffalo area-- I think it's fried perch. YUM.

So glad all is going well. Hope the house paperwork gets a move on so you can settle into your new home.

Have a great July 4th

Welcome back. I can only imagine. Mister Valentine spent two years in Sicily shortly before meeting me and he's STILL in Sicily when it comes to certain things - food, a constant comparison (this is better there, this is better here, etc). I'm guessing it will be that way for a while. Both places have their charm, I imagine the US (and the people here) is just less laid back than european countries. What an experience, and for your daughter especially!

Welcome home! So happy things are going well, except for the noise level.

Will you do me a HUGE favor? If my feed is not updating in your reader, will you pretty please pop over and un-follow then re-follow? I'm having feed issues and my blog is lonely since the move to WordPress.

Belated Happy 4th of July!

Even if I am a Norwegian, I am fortunate enough to be married to an American - so we had spare ribs (sorry no leftovers :-)

I know what you mean about the noise level! Also the pace in restaurants is a lot different too.

Glad to hear y'all are having fun and enjoying so many lovely cuisines. Jealous about those bagels ;-)

Glad you've made it back safe and sound and are gradually settling in. Eating out is always our favourite thing whenever we're back to Canada after a long stint overseas - we always indulge and have to keep a close eye on our waistlines!!
Hopefully you'll get into your home soon. : )
