Sunday in My City

When we moved here a year ago I was really confused about many differences of Western New York. Now after living here a year.....I'm still confused! Maybe it's because I've never lived rurally before. I know I'm semi rural because I have a Target 15 minutes away and not an hour.

One of the things that drives me crazy is people park on the grass, perfectly good driveways or streets to park on. But no they park on the front lawn. We live in what I consider a nice neighborhood and when we looked at this house two of their cars were parked on the grass in-between trees.

I stopped asking people why WNY's do certain things because they look at me like I have three heads.
In defense of people here or anywhere that park their cars on the grass...our grass here is not nice it's not smooth when you walk on it. It's probably a fancy relative of crab grass!

So why am I telling you about this parking issue I have....because we are now those people!
I know crazy right!! Our driveway is long and narrow. We have a teenage driver now and no where for her to park. So off the end of the drive she goes. In our defense it's temporary, we are getting bids to extend it and she is only parking there because I have almost back into her car way too many times.

That's whats going on in my city....Stop by Unknown Mami and visit more wonderful cities!

LOL - - - sometimes we just have to EAT our own words, no?

My hubby HATES anyone to park or drive across his grass - - - he's just a crazy lawn guy like that.

That makes me crazy too. My husband gets apoplectic if one of our kids parks even a smidge on the grass. We have four drivers (five cars) and are running out of driveway, there may have to be some sacrifices made.

LOL, I love your post. I have often wondered why some people park on the grass. We have trees blocking the entrance to our grass, so it wouldn't work even if I wanted it to.

Sounds like you're slowly becoming a local! I've never lived anywhere where people park on the grass. The closest we came to that was at our Muskoka place - the snow plow guy had pushed so much gravel off the driveway onto the lawn all winter that we just started parking on that area instead of trying to rake it off :)

:) That's funny. Oh, well--If the grass isn't that great anyway, you might as well hide it!

I don't get that either..you never see that here but only because noone has a front yard to speak of and it's mostly concrete when you do see it!

Have a fabulous week :)

Hahaha! Oh dear, yes that is a better alternative than a damaged vehicle. I thought you were going to say there was some legitimate reason like to keep the sun off of it or something! LOL!

I had to laugh the other day because I actually passed a house that had a FIVE car garage. That must have cost a pretty penney!

My husband would freak if someone parked on the grass. He's anal about the yard and crap.

We live on a mountainside so parking in our grass would mean your car would tump over! Seriously, if you don't stay on our circle drive you're taking your life in your own hands! Been there with teen drivers and having to move a car each time. Love your blog, I'll be back to snoop some more!

I used to live in southern Louisiana. Parking on grass didn't hurt the grass. In fact, the grass probably appreciated a little shade. I had unsuspectiong neighbors who would forget to cut the grass or trim around the house a few weeks. The grass became a jungle. Parking on grass in fertile cimates is okay in my book.

I had a cranky neighbor lady call the parking enforcement on me because I parked my car in the grass (in my mom's yard next door.) She lives in a college town and sometimes those kids will get out of hand, but sheesh, I had just arrived from 4 days on the road driving to MI from NM and there was no place for me to park. We got a $200 ticket and a lesson on how to turn a grassy area into a non-fineable parking spot. LOL
