Sundays In My City

Everyone knows the fairy tale of The Bremen Town Musicians right?
But did you know they never really made it to Bremen?
Yet it is a very important part of Bremen....there is a huge bronze statue located outside the Rathaus.
Word has it if you rub the legs of the donkey your wishes will come true!
All over the city and there are colorful painted statues of the Town Musicians.
Here are a few!

This one is outside the Starbucks....missing the Rooster.
I guess it's typical to go missing of all the animals on the statue.

Hope you enjoyed the color in this grey city on a cold, winter Sunday!

Please pay a visit to UNKNOWNMAMI and visit the world this Sunday.

Will the wish still work if YOU rub the donkeys legs for me??? Only because I'm not sure when I'm getting to your neck of the woods in the near future... :)

How fun! I love that. Philadelphia did that a while ago too! I can't remember what animal they allowed different places to paint and decorate. I love it though. very clever!

After reading the story from your link, then all the animals make sense. I hadn't heard of that story before.

Question is though, have you rubbed the legs and did your wish come true?

I love community art. We need more of that around here, and less Wal-Marts while we're at it.

How fun is that! chicago did something like this was huge cows and Los Angeles did it (although less successfully) with angels. It's so fun seeing the artist creativity on each one.

Thanks Frau! Have a great week.

My mom had/has a glazed figurine of the Bremen Town Musicians. I used to dust it every Saturday as a child growing up. I always wondered about the significance of the animals... thanks for showing the lovely colorful pieces around Bremen!! xoxo PS Maybe I will look up Robbie via Google... will let you know.

Thank you so much for sharing with us. It's fascinating to learn more about Bremen - and I bet you're inspiring folks to look around their own towns with fresh eyes. There are so many treasures right in our own backyards!

It's so cool that I not only have been Bremen, have heard the story, have a copy of it in a little book and have a Bremen cloth shopping bag but I loved the city too!

In Kentucky there are horses like this, and here in the next village, roosters...
and our bakery has a bear. I think these sorts of animals add whimsy, especially for my inner child.
