The what's and why's?

What I LOVE about Western New York,so far!

People are very friendly
Accents are really different, sounds like a mix of NY,Canada and Fargo North Dakota!
Everything is new and interesting to us
Lots of  choices of Mama and Pa diners and restaurants
Produce stands on the side of the road with NO one manning them, honor system applies

Ice cream!

What I don't understand about Western New York, so far!

Why are there so many Camaro's! I can't get that song out of my head...Bitchin Camaro!
Why does Nobody use their front door? The UPS guy keeps leaving packages at my side garage door that leads not into the house but a garage work shop. I guess some people have side entry doors. And yesterday I received a package and the mail lady went in my open garage and put it on top of my recycle can. I saw her coming up the drive, waited at the front door anxiously. Went to the garage and there she was in my garage, struck me as strange.

Why do people park on their lawn, when they have a driveway and garage?

Why do restaurants serve a beer in a bottle only, where's my frosty mug or glass?

Why are there Garage Sales starting on a Friday?

Garage sales start on Thursdays here (for the best traffic). When are you used to them starting?

I don't think I'd like UPS wandering into my garage either!

They park on the lawn????

That package delivery system is weird! Glad you are all settling in nicely! Hope you and the elliptical are doing well together! That is one of my favorite machines!

PS the lawn parkers are probably former Alaskans.... (smiles)

So funny. I really don't get the side door thing. Only proper company to the front door help to the side? Odd.

LOL--Interesting!! I bet you can appreciate each and every one of these whats and whys ;-)

Well, sounds friendly leaving a package in your garage : ) Maybe that's where the previous owners liked them to be left and the postman is just carrying on as before. When we moved in here our po sent us a paper to tell where we want packages left if we're not home. I asked for mine to be left by the garage because its not as obvious as the front porch. Maybe you can check with your po...they may have something similar.

Glad you are enjoying your new digs!

I think the ice cream makes up for everything!

Doesn't beer always taste better in a frosty glass?

Thanks for the earworm...."Bitchin' Camero!"

Oooh, I'd love to visit there! Sounds friendly and charming to me. That is a bit strange about people coming into your garage. But then again, I live in CA, so they ring your door bell, and by the time you get to the door, they're in the car and leaving, lol.

Garage sales start on Fridays here too, but the main day is Sat. And it's hard to find any on Sun.

I've heard that the side door deliveries have to do with when there is so MUCH snow I guess the side is always shoveled and clear? ( rmember that!)\Also I heard that EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE takes off their shoes before they enter a house once the snow comes. That some folks wear their boots and bring fancy shoes when there is a party.
Make sure you don't wear holey socks...

Wow! How have I been away from here for so long? I agree with Ina that the package delivery system is weird. Maybe that's how the previous homeowners had things set up.

The garage sales start on Friday here, too, and never (well, rarely) on Sunday because that's when the Open Houses are scheduled.

I have a list like that - and I really need to put mine together. It is so interesting how different things are in different areas isn't it?? I'm guessing yo are really missing the frosty mugs and the beer?!

Love this post!! Sounds like a wonderful new beginning.

You'll understand the "side door" when the snow flies. Nobody uses the front door cuz it makes a mess with all the snow and salt and boots and coats and scarves.... and you'll find out soon enough ;-)

I'm taking a 3 week blog vacation to catch up on summer. I'll be back in September. Enjoy the rest of the summer with your nice neighbors!

Cheers, jj

The side door thing is funny - it's the same in my hometown in Northern Ontario, although not anywhere else that I've lived. I've never known garage sales to start on Fridays and I honestly haven't seen people park on their lawns unless they were having a big party and their driveway was full. Gotta love new places and discovering all the quirks! : )

Garage sales are mainly on Saturdays here, because that's when most people have enough "free-time".

Perhaps UPS is/was looking for a dry place? That's what makes people put packages in the garage around my area.

I want to come to NY SO BADLY!

My favorite and "don't get it" is why people park on lawns? Too funny...
Garage Sales in town are Fri and Sat, very few on Sunday!
Sounds like you are adjusting so nicely... "Welcome Home!

Garage sales start on Friday here too...never did know why!

And that UPS thing is really strange!

...and sometimes people without garages have garage sales.

I'm glad your enjoying your newest home. I never did understand the parking on the grass thing either.

Garage sales on Fridays? Well.. I guess in the summer if kids are out of school maybe.. I guess I always think of them as being on a Saturday.

And that seems strange that your mail carrier put a package in your garage.

thats funny i live here and they put my packages in the front door .Sometimes their so big i cant get the door open lol.Mabey they think you are not home and to be on the safe side they put it by the garage so one can take it . the beer thing i think in the bars you have to ask for a glass .But in the nice places you do get a glass.I guess if you drink wine you dont have to worry:)

Hm. Those are good questions, but all I can think is, "What? Friendly? In Upstate NY?" because when we lived near Albany and near Rochester, we felt incredibly lonely, as we found the people incredibly UNfriendly. They start garage sales on Thursdays here, too.
