Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. How many times in your life have you moved house?
Seattle to NJ,NJ to Indiana, Indiana to Michigan, Michigan to West Chester, PA, WC. PA to Altoona, PA. Altoona, PA to Utah. Home with M&D to Married house, house to duplex, duplex to condo, condo to lil house, lil house to Holiday, Utah. Utah to Germany, Germany to WNY.  That is 13 times! Yikes!

2. What subject would you study if you had a year to devote to it?
Photography

3. What in this world breaks your heart?
Cancer among many things

4. What is one item that symbolizes the times in which we live? Why?
Is Facebook an item? Seems like everything evolves around FB. So maybe the item is our IPhones or Ipads connection to all info.

5. Share a favorite bumper sticker or t-shirt slogan.
Considering my pet peeve of tailgaters here in WNY one comes to mind....If you can read this you are following too close, get off my ass!

6. How do you like your spaghetti?
Meat sauce and wheat pasta....fresh parmesan cheese!

7. What is one piece of advice you would give a recent, or soon to berecent, graduate?
Find a job you love doing not a job you have to do. Be flexible!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I'm sticking to the theme of moving. I think the hardest part of moving is moving to an area you know no one. People that have never moved haven't a clue how hard it is and how long it takes to get adjusted. Not only do you have to figure out your new surroundings, meet people, find new doctors, hair dressers, grocery stores etc.. it doesn't happen over night. I think it's especially hard when you move into a small rural area where people never leave so they have no idea what it's like to be the new person. I could go on and on about this subject so I'll stop now!

Love the beautiful shots in you header!

I moved around a lot as a kid. I was always the new kid. It's no fun. But the places you've been to sound amazing!

I also would love to study photography.

The bumper sticker....ha, too funny! I totally agree, tailgaters drive me nuts! Why do people do that???

I totally get #8. It's especially hard when you don't have small children living at home to help get you connected. This has for sure been our toughest move...we've been here 22 months and still don't feel like we're completely 'at home'.

Love your hodgepodge!
We're up to about 20 moves now and it doesn't really get any easier. Some have been within the same city, many have been much further and I totally agree with #8 - while it can seem glamorous, it's the everyday mundane things that you have to get adjusted to. People who have never moved really don't understand the difficulty of it and only compare it to perhaps a week's vacation they may have taken there, staying in a nice hotel, eating in restaurants for every meal and being able to enjoy the sights. Real life is nothing like that - grocery shopping, hubby having to go to work, no wheels, no friends, and one of the hardest things for me is not having a proper washer and dryer like in Canada - these kitchen washer units and no dryer are the pits! I'm so over having to hang laundry in our dining area!

I haven't moved in 28 years but prior to that I moved over a dozen times before I was even 20. As some young kids might say... I feel ya.
Interestingly, moving so much still defines me. I'm the first one to notice someone new on the block, at my church. Where ever. I'm the one who asks people to be aware of welcoming the new people along with me. I think once you've been in that lonely place, you never forget.

I have moved 21 times in my life and now because of our incredibly small hot water tank, we have to move again. I understand, more than most, what it's like to move often and to somewhere that's completely new to you (maybe not as new as Germany, but still, new, hah).

You have moved around alot my friend. Lucky 13 could be the last one. I remember moving from Wisc to IL was tough and I was in my 20's I was supposed to be more flexible. smile... Having no children makes things even tougher. I will never forget one neighbor when we moved into our current home, came up to Gary, asking how many kids we had. When Gary said none, he turned around and walked away!! Enjoy your day my friend! xo

I totally agree with your random thought. My oldest daughter moved to a new town three years ago. She was so lonely. She didn't know anyone - her husband was working long, long hours. She sat in her house and got sadder and sadder. I would say it's just been in the last year that she's finally made relationships and feels "at home" in her new location.

Wow, you've moved a lot!
I've moved a few times and I agree it's hard to get settled in a new area and find the things you need.

I know what you mean. I stopped counting at move 18. Somewhere along the way, I decided God must have meant for me to be a nomad. :)

We've lived in some of the same places. I was born in Germany, and I've lived in NJ, MI, and PA. It is a small world, indeed!

I "met" you when you were in Germany, blogging about life overseas. Oh, how I admired your courage! I know it wasn't/isn't easy, but Kathy...you are an inspiration to me!

I completely agree with your random thought. I am a small-town girl who moved to Miami when my husband's job transferred him there. Talk about a culture shock (I grew up in Alabama). I knew NOBODY. I think it's in these times when we really mature though.
