Wednesday Hodgepodge

Joining up with Joyce at From this side of the Pond for Hodgepodge fun!

1. William Shakespeare's birthday is celebrated on April 23rd...when did you last read Shakespeare? What's your favorite Shakespeare play?

Last read.....long time ago! Favorite play I'm not a big Shakespeare kind of girl but I'll go with Romeo and Juliet.

2. What food(s) would you recommend a foreign visitor try when they visit your home country?

I always hated when we lived in Germany and people would come to America for the first time and they would say I hated the food. I'd ask where did you eat and their answer would be Hooters or some other chain food restaurant.  People eat so different in Foreign countries than we do here....our proportions are so large and heavier...but the variety is greater to choose from.
I would say try Mexican food because unless your from there most people have never had good authentic Mexican food.

3. What's a lie you often tell yourself?

It's okay to eat that you worked out hard!!

4. What's something you're good at that might surprise us? Remember this is a family friendly blog!

Closet organizing.....okay probably not a surprise to people that know me...but I love cleaning closets and lining clothes up by colors....etc!

5. Who is your favorite animal character from a book?

Pooh from Winnie the Pooh!

6. April showers bring May flowers...do you have a green thumb?

Sometimes....I'm good with flower pots and hanging planters.
I can't wait this year to plant and see some color in my yard.

7. Speaking of rainy days...which one of the following activities would you most want to spend time doing on a rainy day-
sort photos and create albums
bake cookies
read a good book
hold an all-day movie marathon
organize closets, cupboards, or bookshelves
try a new recipe
fix something that needs fixing
All of the above....
We had rain all last weekend....one day I read all day, next caught up on all my shows! I don't do it often but I loved it.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Prom dress shopping......most painful task known to motherhood! Katelyn's online choice fell through and it was a I told you so moment...not one of those biter sweet moments because there was yelling and tears involved on both parts.....but in the end a dress was found locally and on sale and fits like a glove and she looks amazing in it! I can't wait until her special day!

Happy Wednesday!

I'm glad your daughter found a dress. I could picture the mother-daughter tears pretty easily : )

I agree with the proportion thing-WHYYY does everything have to be so huge? It is not appetizing.
London has every sort of food you could want-except Mexican. There are a few Mexican restaurants there but eh. That was one of the first things we would eat upon landing in the US...really the only food we missed from home.

Oh, I've been there on the whole prom dress shopping deal. I recall wanting to pull every hair out of my head! My daughter and I just didn't see eye-to-eye on any of the choices. We ended up going to a consignment shop and found the perfect dress...for only $70! Gotta love Mexican food!

I so know what you mean..The Dutch just LOVE to tell me that everything in the U.S. is sickingly sweet and why does everyone eat burgers and blah blah blah. To be honest I dont eat out in Dutch places because of the portion sizes..they are soooo small! If Im going to pay 30 euro for a meal..I want it to look like something other than a kids meal size. I think that is why the portions are larger in the U.S..people want value for money and are willing to sacrifice on the food quality aswell.

During our travels to the US there were quite a number of times we had to go find a Chinese restaurant, to get RICE :)

Oh no I can't believe the online shopping experience. I am happy the dress is found and now the to add the special touches will be fun. xo

Ah prom shopping. Our online experience was better only because I ordered 10 dresses some in multiple sizes. Then returned all the ones that didn't fit.

Never could get into Shakespeare myself.

I loved Lassie! Old School Lassie from the 50s-60s.

For me on a rainy day I will go to a movie with Mr. O or a friend, maybe a bite to eat afterwards. I will also sit still and read and let the dogs cozy up with me with a fire.

Chain restaurants. Don't get me started. We have so many wonderful locally owned restaurants here in Anchorage. Also a lot of chains. Olive Garden has recently opened and you would think Jesus arrived for the Second Coming. Mass flocking to Olive Garden. I had never tried it so one day our office went there for lunch. I did not go because we had a client but ordered a pasta for them to bring back. It took FOREVER for them to return because it was so crowded and the pasta was not good. I get irritated about that because like I said before there are so many great local eateries.

I can just picture the prom dress drama....

I wish I was good with flowering pots like you are! I love Pooh too. What a cutie!

You also reminded me that I need to clean out my closets desperately!

I love your answers!

I've posted a question or two on my blog but most every time I read these sets of blog questions I can tell they were created by a woman and directed to women. That's fine but blogging is co-ed. Just an observation, this list is better than some I've read.
#2 - a Chicago style hot dog.

You are so good at the link-ups! I don't know how you keep up with them all.

You'll share photos of the K in the dress, right?

I hear people are spending thousands of dollars on prom now. Crazy!

I always love these random question posts!

Now that you've got the prom dress the rest of the school year should be a breeze. :). I remember the word exchange between my mom and I. I made my senior year dress and I had to take a couple stitches in the cleavage to be able to walk out the door. Enjoy the paparazzi event.

I love your hodge podge and how you seem to take it all in stride. I have a few years until my daughter goes to prom...but we already have fashion fights!

I think we tell the same lies to ourselves! I love an organized closet - the doing part isn't my favourite - you can come do mine anytime!
As for prom dress shopping, I can understand the tears - it is such an important dress. Glad it all worked out and she found a beautiful one. xo

So fun! Glad your daughter found a dress. That was a tough one for me, if I recall, so very long ago:) Happy Hodgepodge weekend.
