Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Summer officially rolls in with the Hodgepodge this week, for those of us in the Northern hemisphere anyway. What song says summer 2012 to you?
???? Don't have one yet I'm going to work on it though!! I did hear a song last night on my oldies but goodies radio station that brought back summer memories of the year I graduated 1984
Tears for Fears Shout!

2. What's your favorite quintessential summer food?
Watermelon...grilled veggies.....hot dogs/hamburgers

3. I've spent a lot of time traipsing up and down the NJ Turnpike in recent weeks. Did you know the rest areas on the turnpike are named after people who lived or worked in NJ? Clara BartonWalt WhitmanJ. Fennimore CooperMolly PitcherJoyce Kilmer,Thomas Edison, and Gover Clevland just to name a few. Of those I listed, who would you most like to have known and why?
I'm going to say Clara Barton because of her humanitarian causes and being the found of Red Cross....I wonder if she ever dream this organization would help so many.

4. At what age did you move out of your parent's house and what prompted the move?
I was 22 years old....I got married.

5. What's more satisfying to you-saving time or saving money?
Saving money for sure.

6. Name something you think brings out the good in people.
Paying it forward....giving back!

7. This last question comes to you courtesy of Kathy over at Reflections...will you be taking a vacation or a staycation this summer? If so where will you go? If a staycation is on the calendar have you made any special plans to fill the time?
Probably a staycation....maybe a quick trip to NJ at the most. We did our big vacation in April and being Katelyn is leaving for college in 56 days...we need every minute for her to work and us to enjoy her smiling face!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
My parents come today for a visit and Katelyn's graduation on Friday....it's really happening! My baby is going to be a college girl...I'm in such denial.....I know some of you are saying "what's the big deal"...I'm not sure....it just feels like kindergarten was yesterday and eighth grade was also yesterday...and now it's just I want to pause life for a little while....take a breath and enjoy! sniff sniff sniff....!

Stop by and say hi to Joyce at From this side of the pond for more Hodgepodge fun!

Don't you just hate how fast she grew up. Its like you are happy and excited for the adult she is becoming...but miss the little girl that she was. That's how I feel about my girls.
We're doing a staycation here this year too... gotta save up for that huge high school tuition bill that starts next month. Yuck!!
Two songs remind me of suumer... toes in the water - zack brown band and Kidd Rock 's All summer long.

I get the big deal. I see you haven't got the days counted down or anything : ) I will say I think the anticipation of them going off to uni is tougher than the actual reality of them being at uni. Enjoy all the graduation festivities!

I dread the day my boys leave for College. They are young enough that I tell them they have to stay here forever and they say okay. I also dread the day they realize there is a whole big world out there that they want to check out :)

It is a big deal! She's your baby! But knowing that you've raised such a lovely girl should help soften the blow xo

Just try to slow down and enjoy every moment to its fullest. Big life change ahead for you and Dear Katelyn. Sweet girl and sweet mom. Sending you lots and lots of love Kathy! Enjoy your parents' visit.

I am still trying to figure out when I will next be in NJ. No immediate plans as of yet. It is gorgeous here in AK xoxo

I love all those summer time foods too, but add a little lobster tail and corn and you have perfection.

There are some amazing people in our world like Clara Barton who have had such brillant idea. I moved at when I got married too.
Paying it forward....great answer!

I love 80s tunes too! Tears for Fears are one of my favorites!

I don't blame you, I would be feeling the same way if my first born was graduating! But oh what the future holds for her! Her adventures are just beginning and you will be there for her!

I totally get the wanting to freeze time. If only we could. I didn't handle the empty nest very well. I adjusted but it took a while and at times it wasn't pretty. I'm surprised my husband didn't move out. :o) Anyway, hang in there. Enjoy your summer and savor every minute!
