What if....

You were one of the hundreds of stranded motorist stuck on the Thruway in the middle of a blizzard for 14 hours. Would you be prepared?

I wouldn't have been but I am now. After hearing report after report about the stranded motorist and road conditions here, I started to worry about the what if's.......

So now my car has a emergency road kit and I'm ready for old man winter!

1. Blanket
2. Hat and gloves,scarves
3. Shovel
4. Hand Warmers
5. Water
6. Food
7. Pen and Paper
8. First Aid Kit
9. Flash light
10. Phone Charger
Need to add
Old pair of boots and coat
Flares and matches

Now I just need to remember the snickers bars are for emergency only and an emergency is not a long wait in car pool lane!

Very impressive! And, love your mantels- in fact I think I have some mantel envy as I haven't even started decorating. All the stuff is there though.

Wow. You are really prepared- however I hope you don't get caught in a situation where you actually need all this stuff!

Good idea and I hope you never have to use it!

That is one impressive shovel! After a few years of living there your emergency kit will consist of the blanket and phone charger... although I must admit if I stray far from Anchorage (actually never in winter unless I fly out) I do put together an emergency kit for the car.

I am back because I just noticed on your Christmas Countdown widget that ads pop up from it! Don't know if you knew that!

I was once stranded for 7 hours. You should include in your kit something to pee in. I am serious. Thankfully, I had a mason jar in my car. Otherwise it would have not been pretty.

You know-- this is a great idea! My car generally has extra coats/hats/mitts and when i take a roadtrip, i make sure we have snowpants, blankets and boots.
I have a shovel and kitty litter and the first aid kit...

but food?? Goodness! I guess i'd starve!

And the water part---how do i get it to not freeze....that's a problem here.

Great idea! And you have the most important lesson already learned. Hands off the chocolate!!

Wow, you're really well prepared! The only thing I have in my car is the first aid kit! I think I gotta stock up!
Still, I hope you won't need any of this!

I keep a small shovel in case I have to dig my tires out of the snow or slush, a LL Bean blanket, a pair of leather ski gloves. I've learned from experience that wool gloves that wet all too soon. I also keep a flashlight and one of those reflective windshield signs that reads "call police". And water.
I think the only thing I'm missing is the chocolate, and plenty of it! :)

It looks like you will be totally prepared! Except... do you have something to pee in? : )

Also add:

+Duct tape (1001 uses)
+Hand crank radio (if batteries go dead)
+Laser pointer (to signal)
+mirror (to signal or catch water)
+Hand/foot wamers (chemical packets that hunters use to keep warm)

Good for you. You are so smart. : )
I am afraid I would think of lots of emergencies for those snickers bars though... Darn it!
