Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. It is officially fall here in North America...I realize not everyone who participates in the Hodgepodge lives in North America but if you do, what's your favorite memory of Summer 2011? If you're not in North America, what's your favorite memory of the season just ending on your side of the world?

My favorite memory of this summer would have to be our family reunion at LBI on the Jersey shore.
My parents, my four sisters and spouses and 15 kids the equals 27 in all.  One week of amazing weather, food, drinks, fun and memories to last a lifetime.

2. Your favorite nut? You know I mean the edible kind, right?

I' m a nut girl....currently only trying to have raw almonds, but during the holidays for some reason cashews and pistachio's are my favorite!

3. What activity puts your sense of balance to the test?

I have no balance....riding a bike as been a test of balance. While our mode of transportation while living in Germany, there were many falling off my bike so randomly  and for no other reason then balance and coordination lacking.  Currently doing lunges at my workout class have but my balance to the test.

4. How would you describe your sense of humor?

I can laugh with the best of them....but it depends on the situation and my mood. I live with a man that is a comedian in his own mind.....I love him dearly but he needs new material!!

5. September 28th is National Ask a Stupid Question Day...what's your stupid question?

I have certainly ask a few in my time....probably everyday! I'm sorry drawing a blank....

6. Roller skates~hula hoop~jump rope...which activity would you most enjoy? Yes, you have to choose.

Back in my day I loved doing them all....but today I would pick hula hoop it's less dangerous to fall or pull something. Omg I sound like I'm 80!!

7. What's your most sentimental possession?

I would say my wedding ring....but also my pictures, sentimental items bought while traveling, various pieces of jewelry my hubby as given me over the years.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

We had our last back to school night this week.....last one...our daughter is a senior....yay! I felt really bad for her teachers, the showing of parents was pathetic. In some classes we were the only parents to show, and others maybe 4 or 5 out of 20. I personally feel these teachers give up their evenings to be there, how can you not show up? To me it shows a lack of respect and interest in your own child's life.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!! Stop by Joyce's at From this side of the Pond for more hodgepodge.

Best summer memory - that my kids didn't fight all summer. Honest. I'm still in shock over it (though they have resumed their normal selves and are at it like cats and dogs, ugh!)

Nut - honey roasted peanuts or brown sugar pecans. Mmm, heaven in my mouth.

Hula Hoop. I want a Hula Hoop. A sparkly one. ;)

What a great pic of your family!

My most sentimental possession would be the same...my wedding ring and my photos.

The back to school night...that's too bad. We had the opposite problem, it was so packed in the school with parents and kids it was a bit chaotic!

I always liked going to back to school nite...I think its good to see the teachers in person so when your child talks about them you have an image. Enjoy this year!

Oh lunges-me too-who would have thought something so seemingly simple could make me tip over???

Ummm... balance seems to be an issue with you, just like me! Could it be the wine we drink? :)

On a serious note this is heartbreaking to hear the turn out of parents. It was one night of their time to show interest in their child. Then some wonder why there children can't commit. xo

My impression of Summer 2011 is that it was quick!! And: we enjoyed our new deck tremendously & my mom, sister & aunt came to visit. Another was my trip to Halibut Cove on the Danny J & visits to Homer. It was such a good summer, sigh....

Sad about the lack of turnout for Parent Night :(

I can't think of a stupid question either. Maybe there is none.

That's awful about the parents not showing. I guess they feel like they've been through it and it's nothing new? I'd still go even if I'd done it 20 years in a row.

Raw almonds? I've never tried them!

I agree with you on #8
When we had our back to school night very few parents showed up.
It was good for us, more intimate discussions.
But I felt sad for the other students.
The teachers said unfortunately when students enter High School the parents no longer want to be involved.

I love almonds too, but pistashios are my favorites. I also like Brazil nuts. My favorite memory from summer is baby girl being born.

Best summer memories would always be getting together with my husband's family in Canada. Our kids are all about the same age and they always have a blast together.

It's a real pity that more parents did not show up. Like you said, the teachers are giving up their own evenings to do these and I think as parents we owe it to our children to be as involved as possible (even if it is only to attend back-to-school nights).

My favorite summer memory was getting married to my very best friend.

Obviously, some parents don't realize just how important it is to be a part of their kids learning adventure. That's so sad!

Love that photo of your family. You are so fortunate to have it. I agree about back to school night. As a former teacher it would really irk me that parent's didn't care enough to show up. Guess it's still the same at many schools. So sad.

Love your huge family photo. :)
Best memory of the summer? Getting our apartment in Dubai. And our sofa finally arriving!
Balance? getting out of bed too fast and vertigo kicking in
Nut? Brown sugar pecans or cashews
Definitely hoola hoop!
Stupid question? I don't ask stupid questions! Although maybe my guy would have a different answer!
And yes, that is a shame about how few parents showed up. With my mom and brother as teachers, I've often heard how disappointed they have been that so many don't seem to care.

Well and solidly on our way into fall up here in Minneapolis with winter giving us dirty looks from just around the corner.

I'm cold already.

p.s. I enjoyed your hodgepodge. :-) First time here.

I couldn't hoola hoop to save my ass!!!! ... and I feel your pain, I live with a comedian also.. he keeps us laughing all of the time, however, it's usually something bad.

Yes, parents should show up. Being a teacher I can tell you the ones who aren't involved are the first to complain!

Glad Katelyn has a great set of parents!
