I say goodbye you say hello

all this is gone...
one pickup bed full
room for a body in the back seat

5 am start in the pouring rain
4 hours later the rain stopped
long enough for us to carry
all this up to the fourth floor

I was told there would be Lacrosse players helping
or maybe football players....
young strong men....
maybe at the other dorms
we had these two helpers
or something like these two that pointed the way...

It was tiring
It was muggy
It was stressful

Her room was twice as small as I remembered
The closest was no Narnia closet like Katelyn packed for...
She had plans to rearrange the furniture...
(insert laugh)
That wasn't happening
But we did get there before her roommate
basically set up all the important stuff before heading to lunch
giving them the space to set up her side of room.

Finished a few errands
room not quite done but it's
time for parents to leave....
(insert tears)

It was a exhausting day for us all
after we were gone they kept the kids busy
every hour booked with activities

The next morning we made the drive up this beautiful drive to say a quick goodbye

(insert tears)

Katelyn's room looks nice. I hope she found a spot for all of her things. Did you get to meet the roomie and her parents? A beautiful drive among the trees. How are you doing? When will you see her next? Hugs....

Boy that is a small room. Hope they get along.

My daughter would love all that Vera Bradley stuff.

It gets better, I promise. The second year is easier.

If only we could turn back time... but since we can't, just be glad that dreaded day is over! Her room looks so cozy. Are those hardwood floors?

I know you are filled with so many mixed emotions.

I feel your pain. Between my 2 kids I moved them in or out of school 16 times. It does get easier but it's always a bit sad. Such is life. You have done your job well and she will be fine. Trust in that.

The room looks good. surprised all that stuff fit inside. LOL Just kidding. When my oldest went away she took everything but the kitchen sink. TEARS, indeed. It is heartbreaking to say goodbye. Hang in there. You will get through this transition.

Big hugs for you! I know this is an exciting time for Katelyn and how hard it is on the rest of us when we deal with the kids leaving the home..although I am not there yet I can still feel the panic rise as I teach them as much as I can over the next few years..

Love her room and look forward to the updates on how she is coping with college life and how you are doing throughout all of this :)

Ahhh... sending you big hugs! That's a tough day.
Those rooms are always so tiny - it really is a test of creative space-planning! I'm sure she'll feel nice and cozy in there. I hope she and her roommate become lifelong friends xo

Big sigh, Frau. I can only imagine how hard it was for you to say good-bye, even though you are so proud and excited for Katelyn. I hope he first year of college is glorious.... for all of you.

Nice job on the shoebox, I mean room. Yikes! That redefines the term "cozy".

Hang in there. My sister with three kids at college swears it gets easier!

" Narnia closet " - I like that. Hope the roommate works out good. That can be a problem. Best wishes
