The Doctor...

It's no secret I need to lose weight. The move to Germany was a huge life change for me. Now back on America soil I have a lot of work ahead, undoing the damage I did in the last two years. I really thought just being back and happy would be enough! Silly I know, but apparently it takes more than an address change to lose weight.
I watched the Dr.OZ show the other day and his message was if Americans would just lose 10lbs this year how much healthier they would be. Dr. Oz and his panel of experts made it sound so easy.

Five Commandments
1. replace soda with water
2. eat nothing after 8 pm
3. move for at least 10 minutes a day
4. no snack larger than fist
5. track your weight everyday

I think if seems easy enough to do, their method is the start for people like me that have a lot to lose. The idea is you will feel better and in turn move more than 10 minutes a day, eat better and in return lose more weight.

For me it's doing things different than I've done for the last two years, we all know what we can change in our lives to live healthier. For me it's not falling into my old pattern, it's enjoying the things you love in moderation.
For me it is time to take control of my health, yes I'd like to look better in my jeans and have the scale say something besides ouch when I step on it! For me my focus is change like the change of a season.

I'm gonna listen to Dr. Oz and his friends, I joined Weight Watchers and signed up for a Zumba class once a week. I've dusted off the sneakers, squeezed into the spandex, ate my last candy corn and I'm looking forward to the change.

You go girl!

One of the big hidden sources of calories are the drinks. We tend to focus on the food we eat, forgetting about the calories in what we drink. Those sodas, teas, and many flavored drinks pack a lot of extra pounds. You are wise to stick with water.

Best of luck to you.

WOW, Kathy I can feel your excitment right off the screen. I'll be right by your side cheering you on and if you fall I'll be there to dust the dirt off your knees. The class sounds neat- I give you 2 stars for this one, I'm too shy to attempt this one, that is unless I have a glass of wine or two. xo

My sister takes a Zumba class and LOVES it. I take spin bike classes and am addicted to the. It's difficult at first, but nothing good comes easy, as my Instructor tell us. Persistence and continuity will help you to suceed.
You've already made a great start!

Good for you - YOU CAN DO IT! and I'm with you! The move to Australia only made my problem worse. Now the 7 pounds I needed to lose is 17. I started running 3 weeks ago and have done 3x a week. I'm adding 3 more days of either walking or something else this week. We should start a group or something! Any ideas? keep us updated!

Good luck! I've slowly lost about 10 lbs....so now I only need to lose 40 lbs. instead of 50. If I can get rid of 10 lbs. by the end of the year, I guess I'll be happy. Or happier.

It's a lot better to look at it in small increments otherwise I just want to stick my head in a box of ice cream.

Great attitude that will bring great change.
I know you will do it.
When I use to bring little skiers to the top of the hill for their very first time they would be so scared, literally shaking. I would calm them by telling them that we weren't skiing the WHOLE hill at once, just little parts of it.

I love those rules to follow. I'll incorporate those as well. I don't even know how much I need to get rid of. You can do it!

Good for you! I saw the same episode and am going to try to adopt those changes too. I'm heading back overseas on the weekend which will likely help as I won't be surrounded by lots of sweets and junk like I am here so that's part of the battle. And if the rain can hold off in Ireland a bit, daily walking will get me on track. I'm with you! :)

Good luck to you! I have found that moving around so much is bad for the waistline - always so much new food to try and old favorites to fill up on again!

I LOVE WW!! I lost 30 pounds with it and ate more food than I ever had before. I don't drink soda,I do move around but Im a total snacker. I can snack without even realising I just snacked. I can talk on the phone and grab something without even realising it and then I get off the phone with crumbs all over me and I ask myself wat in the world did I just do..lol

Im starting in january...lord knows I need to drop more than 10 but 10 is a start! Good luck!

I track my weight every day and the only bad thing about that is when it's higher than it should be, it stresses me out and I anxiety eat.

Please email me and tell me how you like Zumba. I have been wanting to do it but am afraid I'll feel like a complete fool. I have replaced the soda with water and feel soooo much better and less puffy, if you will. The best of luck to you. I know first hand how difficult it is. :) xoxo

It's interesting that Dr. Oz says that we need to move 10 minutes a day. That just blows my mind that there are people out there (like myself some days!) that don't walk for at least 10 minutes. That's just sad.

Thankfully I don't drink anything but water - so that's not a problem. I do eat after 8 pm.

Good luck to you!
