What can you recommend?

Looking for some suggestions for good books to read? I'm heading back to states for Christmas and need to stock up. English books are hard to come by here in Germany, and it is very expensive to ship. I love all books and I'm guilty of following Oprah's book picks for many years. Out of touch with whats new and popular since summer time, hope you all can help!

water for elephants was my favorite book for 2008. David Sedaris Holidays on Ice for seasonal hilarity. Enjoy & give Sophie a hug. Will you be blogging?

Our book group will be reading the new book by the "blink" author. Have you read all the twilight books? I like nonfiction, so I am not much help!

I would totally get a kindle. That way you can just download your books for 9.99 (or less) any time you want and in English!

You can order English books through amazon.de and the like. They have a section called "Englische Bücher":

All you need is a German bank account or a credit card. It might be hard to navigate the site at first, as it's in German, of course, but once you've registered (I'm sure someone can help you) it should be alright. There's no postage fee.
