Making a house a home one step at a time.....

Today I anxiously waited between 7am - 2pm for my Ikea delivery. When we moved here we shipped a lot of our favorites but not everything. You can only fit so much in a shipping container. Now that we are slowing approaching our first year here and I'm done sulking, we are trying to make this feel more like home. Our office is the first to get the much needed attention. My husband has to work with German time zone and California time zone so he spends most evenings in the office and we wave to him through the window. Our office has his desk and a built shelves, and that's was it until today.

Bare bones couch

Finished product minus the legs and maybe some pillows? Is it too busy for pillows?

Finished product comfy chair

Now I've been scouring the Internet for pictures to cover the bare white walls. But I'm so happy that now I can sit in there and read or play free cell while my hubby works. Plus we don't have to hide in our bedroom when the teen has her friends over. Yay for Ikea and Yay that they deliver.

I'm not the best one to give decorating advice, but how about some red pillows?

Red pillows on the couch and a black & white pillow on the chair. Red candles with black pillars on the wall. Those colors go real nice together and will help your white wall pop!

i would go with red pillows also or just a solid bold bright color- no pattern.

and what about picture frames (black) on those walls? if you're into pics or prints....it looks beautiful!

Love the red chair and the couch. Sophie is such a good helper. I like the idea of black frames on the wall with some pics and solid pillows for the couch to ground it. Nice job. Doesn't it feel good to make the house homey.

IKEA is a wonderful invention! I wish I had thought of it. The red chair is so beautiful with the flowers (hydrangeas?) on the table beside and the wonderful picture window. I love all the decorating ideas you've gotten, but from the looks of things, you don't need much advice!

I agree with red pillows. I love that chair! Did you cover the couch and chair? I have been looking for slipcovers.
It looks like you are settleing in very nice. How long are you in Germany??

Red pillows all the way. And your photography is pretty good, why not frame some of your black and whites with stark, black frames.
Love the bold, happy colors.
I think you are now officially out of your funk.

Sophie peering out the window is darling! And we vote for hot pink or cobalt blue or bright yellow pillows, depending upon the family's fondness for any of the above!

We love Ikea!

Oh how nice!!! Loved the picture of Sophie looking out the window! I agree with everyone here, I think a nice solid color pillow in a HOT RED color would look great on that couch. LOVE IT!!

love the decorating!
re ticks, there is a topical solution (here there are many brands....Frontline, being one) that you put on the skin at the nape of the neck....is absorbed into the fat and repells ticks and i think fleas too! if sophie is getting ticks i would get something! so she doesn't get any tick borne diseases...do they have lyme, ehrlichia...in germany...let me know what ya find out...i hate ticks, yuck!

Personally I wouldn't put red pillows on the couch. But I would put a very colourful picture behind it.

Yay for IKEA as well. Love, love, love that place. Your red chair is fabulous.

Try allposters.de for pictures. Despite the name they don't only sell posters. I got this from there: http://www.allposters.de/gallery.asp?startat=/getposter.asp&APNum=384165&CID=E84E45E44BD7490893BA070E48707D75&PPID=1&search=mocha&f=t&FindID=0&P=2&PP=4&sortby=PD&cname=&SearchID=

It's 12 euros now, but was reduced to 2 something when I bought it so look out for bargains!

I was thinking the same thing and read some of the comments. Red pillows for the sofa maybe a red/blk funky pillow for the chair and one of your photos b/w either blown up or put 3 or 4 up. I like where the room is going. Also Ikea has inexpensive votive for late night romance. xoxo

I love it. I don't know if the rug was a new addition, but it is perfect. Everything looks great together. Don't you love getting new furniture? It is the best feeling! Bet you do a lot of reading in that chair! (if you can get Sophie out of it)
