Sunday in My City- Osterbaum

Easter is fast approaching, Spring is just around the corner. Signs of both are showing their face. Easter in Germany is one of the most important events. Decorations are popping up everywhere. One of my favorite is the Osterbaum (Easter tree). It's done here in Germany to give a splash of color in the grey days of Spring. So since we are a when in Roman do as Romans we put up an Easter tree as well.

Being from Germany myself, I am very familiar with the Osterbaum tradition. I am from northern Bavaria and we also have a Osterbrunnen (Easter fountain) tradition. Do they have that up north, too? If not, you might want to try and look some up online, they are a sight to behold and very, very beautiful. We used to drive to all the small towns just to check out the different fountains.
Enjoy your stay in Germany!

An easter tree! I love it. What a great tradition! I think I would like to decorate one of our trees out front this year. What a fun idea!

I've seen trees decorated for Easter here in America. But I think more for decorating than a tradition like in Germany.

How cheery! I love it!

Aren't they just lovely!
I'm afraid they would be trashed round here but probably would survive in an enclosed garden.
Pity that.
Have a great week.

U know...i've seen these trees around different places i have lived. Always just thought that people decorated for fun--didn't realize it had actual roots etc.

Thanks Frau!

Love the color the eggs provide! When the grown kids were little we also hung eggs in one of the trees in the yard.

Have a great week!

I grabbed the eggs out of the cellar already and will decorate our jasmin bush as soon as I feel better. Will put a photo in my blog then from our Osterbaum.

Do you know the custom of searching eggs and little gifts in USA, too? We are still celebrating it, although our youngest child is already 19. They want it!

i love how germans dress up their homes and yards for the seasons. each and every one. the easter eggs on the trees and bushes are soooo cute! i totally love yours, but i just cannot seem to find it in myself to participate. i know, i'm the one who had cmas lights on her windows in november.

who knows, maybe germany will change me in this way too.

i love those pre-colored eggs in stores. although i love coloring my own eggs, those ultra brights at aldi are great.

i cannot really think about easter yet though, under all this snow.

I'm learning so much about Germany from you, Frau. Thanks.

Happy Sunday,

Well, I am definitely going to try the Easter tree/bush thing. I don't exactly have anything to post for In My City Sunday b/c all I did today was laundry but wanted to comment on the uplifting colors of the Easter tree idea. Can't wait to tell friends about the Osterbaum traditions! I will show my little daughter tomorrow what we can do with eggies. She will be over the moon.

I did not know there was any such thing, but I find it mightily intruiging! At first, I thought the decorations to be chocolate easter eggs and was relieved when I saw the decorated version. AT least you can keep them from year to year.

I can see that they would brighten up the dull grey of early spring.

Thank you for opening up my eyes to the way Easter is celebrated in various parts of the world.

I didn't know that setting up an Osterbaum was a tradition though we've been doing it, too. I'm more familiar the with Easter fountains. Perhaps, because that's more common in the area where I live...

Have a pleasant week...

how cute...i don't think there was a tree anywhere around Munich...it's all footpath. the best festive i remember there is in brussels when they do the flower festival and cover the whole main square with designs, absolutely stunning.
