I have failed

My teenage daughter and I were online shopping at Old Navy. They have these three really cute vintage Rock N' Roll T-shirts, Beatles, Pink Floyd and Duran Duran.  I said, Oh these are nice for Gym class or working out and she is like who's Duran Duran? And who's Pink Floyd? I was all are you kidding me, Duran Duran was so popular in the 80's and Pink Floyd they have been around since the 60's! Classic music I may or may not have hummed a few bars from Duran Duran's "Hungry like a Wolf" or "Girls on film"!

I have failed to introduce her to 80's awesome music and classic rock....this is a girl at 5 knew all the words to Brittany Spears "Hit me baby one more time" and now sings Miley Cyrus "Party in the USA" . Is this what this generation thinks is good music and some day they will tell there kids and it will be on vintage T's!

She doesn't want the shirts, I believe she may have said nobody knows who they are with a slight eye roll!
Who know's maybe I'll show up at the Gym sporting my Duran Duran T-shirt! It will fly here in Germany after all the Germans love David Hasselhoff.

I was with a friend in her 30's who was wearing a Metallica shirt and these 2 guys in their 20's went all apeshit over it. Wear your vintage T's, the cool people will notice.

If there are Britney Spears tees in the future I think we'll puke.

My niece doesn't know Duran Duran either! I bet your daughter knows Lady Gaga...
Great weekend Frau!

Hopefully you won't be forced to open this package at your version of the DMV!!

Fast forward some years: I can picture Katelyn ordering her own "vintage" tees with Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Bros. on them and her own daughter doing the eye roll!

I know exactly what you mean. I must have failed too, because my kids never appreciated the artists I liked. I'd start singing along with a song on the radio, and they would look at me with blank stares on their faces. Oh well.

Get the shirts for you. Wear them with pride.

I'm sorry, but it's true- you have failed miserably. Ugh! My 80's Duran Duran loving heart is breaking.

You have been sleeping on the job.
"Hello, is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?"

The 80's might be totally incomprehensible if you weren't there. I would say start with the B-52's & see if she catches on :-) xoh

When the great music comes on the radio I will ask the kids "Who is this?" they sometimes get the performer correct, but mostly not. I agree it is something we forget to introduce to our kids. Sometimes I will sing some lines and my kids have no idea how I know the song, and I find out it is a RE MIX ?? not sure about that. Good Luck

Nee, you are not failing, its the sinkhole of time....
We are always laughing with our kids (4 btw. 23 and 10)they have already gaps between them....in music taste and otherwise.
Take it with a twinkle in your eye and I always think of 10 years from now, we will all look back and smile!
We hear our music, they have theirs. I remember my mother rolling her eyes when I danced to Abba....

Which Germans like David Hasselhoff???? They must be in a time capsule....Pleeease!

Those shirts are SO cool! I can't believe you FAILED the lesson of motherhood that involves teaching your child about 80's music. This is serious Frau. Very, very serious!
