Sundays In My City- Art?

One thing that really surprised me when I moved to Bremen, Germany was the amount of Graffiti. Now that we have lived here awhile you hardly notice it, but when people visit it is almost the first thing they comment on. I call it our "German Art".

Bremen is such an old historical city and it's covered in graffiti. In the states, well Utah at least, graffiti is painted over very quickly and little can be found. Some graffiti is done in an artistic way and others is just plain tagging, to me is ugly.

Art or Not?

This is the colorful side of my city.
Have a wonderful Sunday!

Do you know Unknown Mami? She's awesome and she created a fun Sunday theme inviting you to get out and take pictures of your city to share with the rest of us.

Definitely art. I love street art, it's the only kind that I can afford.

Tagging is especially popular in larger cities. It depends on the nature of it. Thanks for this 'colorful" tour.

Those are (except for the last one) really beautiful and interesting. I vote for Art. :)

Definitely NOT art for the most part. when I see anything "tagged", all I see is Lack of Respect.

Probably not a popular opinion but oh well, you can't be popular all the time!

I like them, especially the first one!

The first one is the only one I really consider to be "Art"..I really like that. We have alot of that here too..my favorite though is when they use a curse word in english and then misspell it..LOL

Yep! It is the first thing a person notices. Although we are getting used to it, it is still a shame when we see a centuries old building covered in graffiti. Not art in my opinion.

I didn't realize there was so much street art there. The last one does look like tagging though, and there's no beauty in that one.

Thanks for the peek!

Thanks for the tip on the D.C. Definitely something to motivate me NOT to drink it anymore. I downloaded Party in the U.S.A and I like it :0)
Thanks for the recommendation.

I love it. It's definitely art. Have you seen anyone actually do this? It takes amazing skill!

No art when you vandalized property belonging to others I'd say... the debate continuessss...

I had to pop over and give my condolences once you said that your Starbucks doesn't offer pumpkin spice lattes. The horror!! :)

(BTW, my vote would go to art on the first, but the others...not so sure.)

The first picture was what I'd consider art but the others was tagging and destruction of property.

I say if they want to create, use an easel and a canvas and not property that doesn't belong to them.

I guess I'm a fuddy dud but that's the way I see it.

Munich has fairly lame graffiti.

The first picture is art, the rest is crappy graffiti.

I've always been a fan of graffiti. It's a lot like tattoos, to me. Art with a touch of rebellion.

Art, borderline art, borderline art, not art. Just one opinion. :)

Some of it is rather good, but I hate it when it simply roudy or vulgar. It depends, but it's an artform of public nature.
It has it's place in our modern, democratic culture, where self expression and public life cross. To a certain degree twitter and Facebook, all those public places of personal expression fall for me in the similar category.

Very intersting subject!

Very cool and a really neat look at something interesting in your city!

Some is art but I think you can have too much of a good thing. It could be that I'm just boring :)

Some of it is very artistic. Tagging not so much.

The first one looks like art to me, the rest not so much. But, it's interesting-- It could easily be graffiti in Los Angeles. I guess "graffiti is graffiti" no matter where you live.

Thanks for sharing! Have a great week.

Some of that is amazing art. If all graffiti were great art, then nobody would mind it!

In NY, there are some walls painted and some walls with random graffiti - I think you will find it in cities.
Keith Harring comes to mind.

I think the first picture is art.

But when people just leave names, I think it's just graffiti.

Wow, that puts Utah's graffiti to shame!

I love street murals. Tagging reminds me of the way dogs and cats mark their territory... it kinda stinks!

I think it's mostly horrible
