Sundays In My City- Freimarkt 2009

17 days of Bright lights,Gingerbread hearts, Beer, Pretzels, Midway rides and much more. Since 1035 Bremen has been celebrating "Freimarkt" one of the oldest fairs in Germany. Last night we bundled up and headed out for some fun, festive good times.
When you go to any festival in Germany you have to have the Gluehwein, it's hot mulled red wine. Just the trick to warm you up on a chilly night. Next you have to have a hot pretzel, the best in the world! Basically it's a night of sweets, meats and alcohol. Dinner consist of Beer and Bratwurst and dessert is something I call "little pillows of love", hot donut squares with powder sugar tossed over them. We didn't go on any rides tonight but walked around and watched the excitement and people around us. Being near the end of the festival it was wall to wall people, though crowded it's nice see the people of Bremen happy, smiling and enjoying the night.

Do you know Unknown Mami? She's awesome and she created a fun Sunday theme inviting you to get out and take pictures of your city to share with the rest of us.

Those doughnuts are making my mouth water this morning. Scrumptious : )

I am glad you could have such a fun outing last night. I guess you guys don't celebrate Halloween?

Hi, this is making my day. The 2nd blogger in Europe. The first thing I thought of when October rolled around was Ocktoberfest. I would die to eat a German pretzel & drink a Weiss Bier. Can't believe I'm homesick for Europe even though I lived there only 5 years. I lived in Munich for 3 years, Zurick for 1 and Dusseldorf 6 months, but I worked all over Germany. I have to follow you so you can remind me of those great days.

It sounds very much like a Christmas market. Does Bremen still have one after celebrating the "Freimarkt"?

My husband and I meet with the same friends every year at the Hamburg Christmas market. I love Glühwein, what I call "meat on a stick", and the whole Christmas market atmosphere... there really is nothing like it.

Schöne Grüße aus Hamburg

P.S. I love the Bremen Matroschka dolls... beautiful!

Hey there! Wanted to thank you for coming by our blog. SOOOO fun to see a new face...and make a new friend. Don't look now...I'm stalking (err Following) you too! Love these pictures. Last time I was in Germany, hubs and I were backpacking for 3 months on an around the world trip. He woke up in Munich complaining his mouth had sores. One peek and I knew it was chicken pox. It was May and they had a freak snow storm. Not a great combination. I'd love to be in Germany during a festival. They know how to throw a party! By the way...is spastfl a German word. It sounds like one...and was my word verification code:) Come on by again the next time you get a chance. Holly at lifelaughlatte.blogspot.com.
